ATTACHING THE BODY GRIP TRAP PAN |
||||||||
As an ordinary trap, the body grip with its four way trigger system is a unique and very versatile trap. It can be set on the ground in a cubby or tunnel or can even be set on a tree. However, sometimes an animal will refuse to enter a trap simply because the trigger wires are in its way. This can be overcome by moving the trigger wires to the side and having the animal trigger the trap with its shoulders, or opening the wires slightly and attaching a fine wire or fishing line between the trigger wires. The body grip as it arrives out of the box. |
||||||||
To attach the trap pan the trigger wires must be bent back and the trap pan added to the wires, be warned, you must be sure that you want to make this modification as the trigger wires cannot be bent backward and forward many times before they will break and TrapWorks cannot accept any responsibility for damage caused when making this modification. Snip off the 'L' shaped prongs and bend the base of each trigger wire outwards to the width of the openings in the trap pan. |
||||||||
| Bend down the tabs on the trap pan. | ||||||||
| Slide the wires of the body grip trigger into the trap pan and squeeze the tabs on the trap pan back down with pliers. | ||||||||
| Bend out the ends of the trigger wires to hide them under the trap pan. | ||||||||
| Bend the trap pan up at 90 degrees. | ||||||||

When set, the trap itself is placed upside down so that the trap pan is inside the trap, this then acts in the same way as any other treadle trap but with the advantage that the trap does not jump up and cause foul catches. This modification is ideal for use on a mink set where the bait is thrown at the back of the hole or cubby and the trap is placed at the front of the set. Sensitivity is adjusted by using the front groove on the dog (fine setting) middle groove (medium setting) or back groove (hard setting). |

| The addition of a trap pan to a body grip trap is sometimes very useful on run through sets or where the animal is trap shy. You can see from the various pictures on this page that from the animals point of view there are no restrictions to access the back of the tunnel or cubby where the bait is waiting. Another advantage is that the pan itself can also be baited. | ||||||||
